Meet Robert Theriot

A Lifetime of Hard Work. A Commitment to Lafourche Parish.

Robert Theriot’s story is one that many families in Lafourche Parish know well: built on hard work, sacrifice, faith, and responsibility.

Raised as the second of seven children, Robert grew up in a modest home where nothing came easy and everything was earned. His father worked long hours to provide for the family, while his mother managed a household where every dollar mattered. Those early years shaped Robert’s deep respect for hard work, financial discipline, and personal responsibility.

Learning Responsibility from the Ground Up

Robert began working at a young age and quickly learned the value of earning his own way.

By age 7, he was cutting grass for neighbors. As he grew older, he worked painting houses, maintaining church grounds, gardening, and supporting local jobs wherever needed. He saved consistently toward his goals, purchasing his first bicycle, then a motorcycle at 15, and his first car at 16 with cash.

These early lessons shaped a mindset that still guides him today. Work hard, plan ahead, and never depend on handouts.

A Mind for Numbers and Business

Robert developed an early interest in how businesses and government operate. While others spent time on the playground, he often chose the library, studying systems and building a strong foundation in math and bookkeeping.

He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Nicholls State University and pursued postgraduate studies in business at both Nicholls and Tulane University, completing those studies while working full time.

This combination of education and real-world experience built the analytical foundation essential for the role of Assessor.

Proven Business Leadership and Professional Experience

Robert’s career spans decades of leadership across engineering, manufacturing, finance, and sales.

He worked in business development with engineering and consulting firms along the Gulf Coast, building relationships with major and independent oil and gas companies. He later served as a corporate executive with global responsibilities, overseeing customer service operations, product performance analytics, and continuous improvement initiatives across international markets.

His experience also includes roles as a sales engineer and manager, working directly with refineries, industrial plants, and business owners to solve complex operational challenges.

In the financial sector, Robert worked with companies such as Ameriquest and HSBC, helping individuals and families navigate mortgages, lending, and financial planning.

This broad background gives him a deep understanding of property value, economic systems, and the financial realities facing taxpayers.
